Dr. Sharan completed his medical school with an academic distinction from MR Medical College, Gulbarga after a brief stint at St Martha’s Hospital in Bangalore. His post-graduate education was at Kasturba Medical College Manipal. He was awarded D‘Othro in 1990 followed by the MS (Ortho) in1991 with a Gold medal. In 1992, Dr Sharan moved to the UK for further training. He worked in some of the premier teaching institutions in north west England, including Alder Hey’s Children’s Hospital – one of the largest paediatric hospitals in Europe. This institution, known for many firsts in the world of orthopedics, gave him extensive training in operating on challenging orthopedic problems in children. The other renowned organisations where he gained valuable experience were Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Hope Hospital, Manchester and Warrington District General Hospital. In 1995, Dr Sharan was bestowed with the coveted degree of Mch Ortho from Liverpool University, making him the youngest graduate to be accorded this honour since the course began in 1926. A promising and comfortable career in England and the prospect of moving to the US was inviting. However, this was overshadowed by a strong desire to serve his own countrymen by applying the knowledge and experience he had gained in the West. He figured prominently in British media when the concept of reverse brain drain to India was featured.Dr Sharan returned back to India in 1996 and joined the premier Institute of Manipal Hospital in Bangalore as their consultant in Orthopaedics. Whilst working with this organization, he single-handedly performed over 5000 major complex surgical procedures, especially in the field of Paediatric Orthopedics, Joint Replacement and Complex Trauma. This earned him the impeccable reputation of delivering high quality orthopaedic care.To pursue the dream of taking world standard quality medical care to the masses, SPARSH Hospital was established in the year 2006 with 120 beds and 5 operating rooms with a capacity of carrying out over 30 surgeries a day. It has become a commitment to constantly explore opportunities and develop processes and systems by which healthcare could become affordable in India.Under his stewardship and within the short time span of just over five years, over 20,000 major surgeries have been performed on the lower-middle and middle class strata of society. Superspeciality teams of every branch of Orthopedics, Plastic and Maxillofacial surgery have been developed with a lead surgeon for each of the specialties. Over 20 consultants and 30 junior doctors work as a team at SPARSH Hospital practicing state-of-the- art medicine with the aim of becoming a leader amongst the orthopaedic fraternity. Being a keen teacher and having been involved in training many young orthopaedic surgeons, medical graduates, postgraduates and nurses, various academic initiatives are conducted every year, periodically. Emphasis is laid on academics and training young talent at SPARSH Hospital. Many recognized courses are also run in the institution.

I underwent knees surgery .Dr Sharan Shivaraj Patil did the suregery successfully. After 6 weeks of surgery I am walking independently without walker and support of any body. The doctor has explained and instructed about the follow up activities after the surgery . Also the Doctor is courteous with the patients. Even physiotherapists also shown lot of concern and treated me well. Specifically the dedication of Sri Sanjay Poul physiotherapist in the hospital and in home service is highly appreciated. I thank Dr.Sharan Shivaraj Patil and his entire team for their wellbeing in treating me to my satisfaction.

The surgical team did a splendid job with my 90 year old mother’s hip joint fracture. And the nursing staff at Sparsh Infantry road was super. Always ready to ensure mom was comfortable and taken care. Hats off to the nursing team !!
It will be really good if the surgery team would communicate a little more with the patient & the family before and after the surgery. It will give a lot of comfort to the family.

The first day I waited over two hours only to see him for less than one minute when he says "please get an MRI". The second day I waited almost an hour and saw him for 5 minutes. In between I need to contact him about the MRI but the phone number I was given only connected to the exchange and nobody answered. I left a message asking for a call back at the OPD department and of course nobody called me.
I did speak to a couple of junior doctors who were very good, attentive and respectful of my time. Dr Patil came highly recommended and I was very disappointed. His recommendation was that I "do physiotherapy sincerely" by which I can only assume he thinks I have not being doing physio for over 6 months, despite not asking me or knowing me at all. Could have spent my time so much better. Between the long lines at payment and fighting through Bangalore traffic and waiting for the doctor, I really would have been better off not seeing him.

I had a broken leg and i am expecting a surgery for internal fixation. My wife booked an appointment to see Dr. Sharan Patil at 1.40 PM so that she can consult and get his opinion.Firstly Doctor didn't show up for about an hour saying he was on rounds and later went for lunch. The OPD staff was calling us 20 min prior to the appointment asking if we are coming for the appointment and when we showed up before time the Dr is not there for an hour.Secondly his assistants came and took all the reports from wife saying that the nurse will give it back to her.Dr. Sharan came after an hour's wait and didn't even spend 5 min to speak with my wife saying there is no need for surgery and it will heal on its own. My wife was literally walking and talking to Dr he didn't even have time to sit and talk to my wife patiently. When my wife insisted him to provide proper guideline he just denied saying i don't treat reports i treat patients. Without even considering that a person with Broken leg can't visit every doctor for an opinion.Last but not the least and biggest bummer is when the nurse returned all the reports to my wife they had lost one of my prescriptions. Now they are not able to find it and without that i can't claim my bills with insurance company.I would say there is no empathy towards patients and very bad management.

Before surgery Dr.Sharan Patil assured me that I can walk comfortably without pain after hip replacement surgery just after one month. But even after undergoing physiotherapy regularly for seven months I am not in a position to walk comfortably. I am limping while walking and getting pain. I am really unhappy.
